Biography
- Sheikh Yahya Safi born in Tripoli, Lebanon in 1970.
- Completed secondary schooling at the Al Iman Al Islamiah in Tripoli in 1988.
- Completed 4 years education at the Tripoli College University for Islamic Studies and was awarded a degree in Islamic Jurisprudence (Islamic Sharia’h Law) in 1992.
- Enrolled at the American University in Beirut in 1989 and studied the English language for a period of 18 months.
- Enrolled at the Al Jinan University in Tripoli at the faculty of Interpreting/Translations, in 1993 and successfully completing the first year.
- Enrolled at the Lebanese University in the Arts faculty and successfully completing year one and two in Arabic studies in 1995.
- Completed a Diploma in Islamic Shariah studies in 1995 at the University of Al Jinan, at the Faculty of Islamic Studies.
- Completed Masters Degree in the interpretation and studies of the Qu’ran in 2002.
- Performed the role of Imam and religious speaker in a number of Mosques in Tripoli for many years, as well as being involved in coordinating, supervising and teaching Islamic studies in Summer schools.
- Arrived in Australia in 1996 as the newly appointed Imam for the Imam Ali Mosque at Lakemba- the largest Mosque in Australia.
- Performed the role of manager of the Religious Affairs Unit of the Islamic Welfare Centre catering to the diverse needs of the Muslim community.
- Since 1996, have been responsible for the management and coordination of marriages, divorces, and personal and family conflicts/relations.
- Participated in numerous conferences, meetings functions and public events addressing community relations and peace building activities.
- Has delivered and written numerous lectures for radio, conferences, media and other seminars and weekly meetings and lectures at the Mosque.
- In Pursue of Excellence in English language proficiency, Sheikh Safi completed Certificate IV in English for Academic Purposes at TAFE College.
- Enrolled at the University of Western Sydney, undertaking studies in Community languages, in Interpreting and Translation (Arabic and English).
- Recently written a book on Social Reform entitled “Establishing a framework for personal change” in accordance with a verse from the Qu’ran.
- Currently enrolled as a PH D candidate in Islamic studies at Charles Sturt University.
- Appointed as the official representative of The Grand Mufti of Lebanon in Australia 2002- 2008.
